About the event
In this class we will learn a bit about the history of natural dyes, preparing your fabric, and how to process kitchen waste to yield a range of color that can be used to bring new life to a piece in your wardrobe that might need a little refresh! We will learn basic shibori techniques to create different “tie dye” patterns and go over the use of modifiers post dye to widen the range of potential color results!
Natural dyes are the perfect way to completely reimagine a piece or hide staining. Any light colored fabric made of a natural fiber will work; so think cotton, linen, wool, or silk, even rayon (a regenerated cellulose fiber) will dye well. Blends may dye on a case by case basis, generally a polyester content of 15% or less will be ok. Please consider the size of your item you may want to bring; table linens, pillowcases, shirts,…
